We all love our pets, but sometimes there are people out there that neglect their furry friends towards Christmas time. It could be that they have a lot on their minds or they don’t fully appreciate how important it is to take extra care of them. There’s a whole manner of things you need to be aware of, and that’s why pet health care experts are urging pet owners to devote a little bit more love and attention this Christmas.
Cats love to venture out and about all year round, but when winter arrives and it gets colder, you need to keep an eye on them. Imagine 2ft of snow outside and not knowing whereabouts your cat is. That cat flap gives it easy access in and out of the house, but when its bad weather, it’s really important that you check on your cat.
Dogs are larger animals and its easy to see where they are, but there is something else you need to be aware of with them at Christmas time. Many pet owners think they should feed their dog with the same treats they get. So, boxes of chocolates on the kitchen table or under the Christmas tree soon find themselves being opened and distributed from person to person, and this includes dogs. However, chocolate is considered to be poison for dogs and it could kill them, which is something that would definitely ruin your Christmas and probably every one thereafter. Just take that extra bit of care to make sure their pet health isn’t compromised by someone in the family feeding them human chocolate.
It is also important to check your pet for any bad health. Fleas, ticks or ear problems are common and they are harder to get sorted at Christmas time, as veterinary opening hours are limited. That’s why the pet health care becomes your responsibility as Christmas approaches.
Any symptoms that your pet has should be checked out a good few weeks before Christmas, so you stand a better chance of getting them sorted. Remember, pets cant converse with you and tell you what is wrong, so you have to be extra vigilant at this time of year.
